ceo’s welcome note

Here’s to Mum

We shouldn’t need an official day to do it, but sometimes we get so caught up in the rush of life we take them for granted. So put it in your diaries now – 11 May is Mother’s Day. If you stop and think about all the things that your mum has done for you (and probably still does!), it’s easy to see why we should take a moment to thank her.

If you’re looking for ways to spoil your mum, flip to the back of the magazine and check out our great destinations and take her away for a short break. Alternatively, have a look at our pick of stylish gadgets and accessories on page 12 and delicious gourmet gift ideas on page 14. Letting mum put her feet up so she can read a great book would probably be present enough, so check out the new releases on page 18. Plus there’s an interview with mum of two, Mel Doyle, host of Channel 7’s Sunrise, World Vision ambassador for the Jetstar Starkids program and now author too. We also meet some celebrities to find out how they mark this special day.

One woman who has a very special mum is Deni Hines. We talk to the vivacious singer-songwriter about her own remarkable career, two national tours, TV show and film role. And yes, we also ask Deni about her relationship with her famous mum.

Dads don’t despair, there’s something in this issue for you too. We take a spin around the track of the legendary Historic Winton race meeting and interview Jetstar Gold Coast Titans’ co-captain Luke Bailey and Outlaw from Gladiators. And if you’re an action man, our cycling tour across Tasmania will get your wheels spinning.

For those in denial about the start of the winter months, you can drag out that summer feeling a little longer by heading north to Noosa’s Mayfiesta. At this feast for the senses, discover what the locals have known for 30 years – May is the time to visit the Sunshine Coast. For Melburnians, it’s even easier to travel there with services from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast increasing to three times daily.

If you want something even warmer, think about our new Melbourne–Darwin– Singapore service. Jetstar now flies twice daily to Singapore from Darwin, with flights to the Top End from Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.

I look forward to bringing you more news about new flights and services by Australia’s fastest growing airline.
