ceo’s welcome note

COOL INDULGENCE

Autumn has arrived and after a long and hot summer, it’s time to get into some pursuits of a different kind.

In this issue of Jetstar Magazine, it’s all about cool self-indulgence. We’ll take you on a journey to the Waipara Valley wine region in New Zealand, home to some of the world’s southernmost vineyards. Waipara is seen as one of the most exciting and fast growing wine regions, and it’s quickly becoming a hub for innovative winemakers. We’ll introduce you to the locals who are making a name for themselves.

Enter the grape versus grain debate with our Q&A interviews with McLaren Vale winemaker Michael Fragos, from Chapel Hill Winery, and Fremantle’s Little Creatures head brewer Alex Troncoso, who would rather drink a pint than a pinot.

If you’ve been following Channel 7’s new TV series, Mercurio’s Menu, then turn to our feature which tells you where to go for some of the great produce Paul Mercurio samples. If you’ve missed an episode, you can catch up by watching the series on the in-flight entertainment on our international flights (not including New Zealand).

After tempting your taste buds, indulge your sporting passions as we celebrate the onset of the Australian footy season. In this issue, we interview Geelong captain Tom Harley about how the Cats plan to defend their Australian Football League premiership in 2008. And of course, we can’t forget the exciting National Rugby League 2008 season, which will see Jetstar Gold Coast Titans playing on their superb new home ground, Skilled Park stadium.

There’s never been a better excuse to ditch those bulky bags and travel light on a short break interstate or overseas. Jetstar recently introduced JetSaver Light, an innovative new airfare product on our domestic and international services* that means customers can now travel with up to 10kg of carry-on baggage only, for cheaper than ever before. It’s because we understand that many of our customers want the choice to travel for leisure or work with no checked-in baggage, and as Jetstar achieves real cost savings through this decision, we believe a lower airfare should be passed back as the trade-off. For information on how it works, check out page 85.

As always, we’ve provided plenty of inspiration for that holiday you’ve been dreaming of, with features on tropical North Queensland, Hobart, the Blue Mountains and Anzac Day memorial sites across Asia.

Relax and read on!
