WHAT A CATCH

Neil Perry at Rockpool (fish)
It just got easier to eat more fish, full of healthy omega-3s. Sydney’s iconic fine-diner Rockpool has morphed into the more laid-back Rockpool (fish).
Celebrity chef Neil Perry will be whipping up the freshest seafood grilled with herb butter, steamed with black bean and chilli, or chermoula-coated and pan-fried. Even more casual is the Moroccan fish
burger at the bar. 107 George St, The Rocks, tel: +61 (2) 9252 1888.
In Melbourne, Hooked – Healthy Seafood to Go is a healthy version of the traditional greasy “chippie”. Try fish in light tempura batter, Cajun barramundi or barbecued baby octopus, take-away or dine-in. 172 Chapel St, Windsor, +61 (3) 9529 107.
GOOD JUBES
How much better is it when something that’s delicious is also (not too) naughty? David Medlow Peckton Jellies are made with natural pectin.
Gluten- and fat-free, they’re gentle on the stomach and are full of intense fruity flavours such as wild berry, pink grapefruit and lychee. 3 Waye Ct, Willunga, South Australia, tel: +61 (8) 8556 4333, and 26 Howey Plc, Melbourne, +61 (3) 9654 5396.
GRANOLAS GET GROOVY
Macro Wholefoods, the group that made health food shops more hip than hippy, recently opened a Mona Vale store on Sydney’s northern beaches, making that four in Sydney and four in Melbourne, with plans for Queensland this year. You’ll love the convenience of supermarket shopping – great cheeses, bread, smallgoods and meats – with the guarantee of healthy food. Afterwards, recharge at the adjoining Macro Café. For your nearest location tel: +61 (2) 9779 9999.
FOOD DOCTOR
Janella Purcell is a chef, naturopath and author of Elixir, who draws on her passion for healthy food. She appears on Janella Purcell’s Get a Life on Foxtel, Good Chef, Bad Chef on Channel Seven, plus Channel Nine’s Today Show and Mornings with Kerri-Anne.
Where did your interest in healthy eating begin?
I come from a family of healthy foodies, but gall bladder problems meant I never felt well. Through trial and error I found a way of eating that made me feel good. Teaching others how to enjoy eating well through my cooking classes is one of the most satisfying things I do.
Tell us about your book Elixir.
It’s an A–Z of health and nutrition, showing you how to care for yourself naturally and using food as medicine.
Sydney’s Surry Hills, where your naturopathic clinic is located, is a foodie centre, but is there much healthy food there?
It’s improved over the past few years. One of the newest options is an organic Japanese restaurant called Wafu (460b Cleveland St, tel: +61 (2) 9319 1880) – everything is gluten-, sugar- and dairy-free.
Where do you like to go for a healthy breakfast near your clinic?
My number one choice is ‘O’ Organic Produce (487 Crown St, Surry Hills, tel: +61 (2) 9319 4009) – I’m quite partial to their Bircher muesli and egg and spinach roll on spelt sourdough bun.
Where do you like to shop when cooking at home?
‘O’ Organic Produce for all the basics and Whole Foods House (109 Queen St, tel: +61 (2) 9363 9879; 9 Dank St, Alexandria, tel: +61 (2) 9319 4459) for its bigger range – they’re like old-fashioned country stores, with service to match.
