fit to go

On the Go.

Whether you’re jetting around, golfing around or just monkeying around, July is the month to get moving

WORDS CRAIG TANSLEY

MONKEYING AROUND

If your kids act like little monkeys, give them a chance to learn some new tricks! Zip Circus Flying Trapeze School at the Novotel Pacific Bay Resort at Coffs Harbour is running a three-day circus camp during the next VIC, NSW, QLD school holidays (June 30 - July 15). It will cover circus acts such as the flying trapeze, aerial arts, juggling, trampolining and tightwire techniques and concludes with all students taking part in a circus performance finale. An hour-anda-half Flying Trapeze class is also available or guests can simply try a ‘swing’ before embarking on the more ambitious trapeze school. For more info, Novotel Pacific Bay Resort, tel: 1300 363 360 (within Australia). For all your travel choices, go to www.jetstar.com

JETTING ABOUT

Get off your banana lounge! There’s so much to do and see in Hamilton Island and the clever folks at Watersports has just made getting around the island a lot faster. They’ve spent three years researching and developing the Jetryder, a custom-built jet engine boat to rival anything in New Zealand – where the jet boat was invented. The Jetryder will have you spinning, twisting and fishtailing your way to your next strawberry daiquiri, thanks to its 5.8 litre turbo-charged diesel engine. A half-hour ride on Jetryder costs AU$65 for adults and AU$55 for kids. For more info, call Watersports at Hamilton Island, tel: +61 (7) 4946 8261.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THREDBO!

It’s Thredbo’s 50th birthday, and Mother Nature looks as though she’ll come to the party by providing the ‘icing’ on the slopes this year! Those who’ve experienced Thredbo on a winter weekend will have fond memories of the traditional Saturday night fireworks and flare run. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Thredbo road collapse and a world record breaking flare run will pay tribute to all those involved. To be part of this momentous event on July 30, tel: +61 (2) 6459 4100.

GOLF BUDDY

Trying to keep your luggage light can be a nightmare at the best of times, but what to do when you have to lug your golf clubs with you? Eagles & Birdies Travel Lite has come to the rescue! Their golf bag weighs just 2.5 kg and looks great too. It’s available in black or navy and can fit a full set of clubs, no problem. With six full length horizontal and vertical sewn club dividers, internal zippered storage pockets, padded top for extra protection and a padlock with two keys, your golf clubs will travel first class, even if you don’t! To order the AU$110 golf bag, tel: 1300 552 855 (within Australia).

RELAX IN THE CITY

Fancy a Thai or Tibetan massage, or perhaps you’d like to treat yourself to a four-hand extra-indulgent massage right in the heart of Brisbane CBD? Sofitel Brisbane has recently unveiled their million-dollar spa retreat. You can even share the experience with someone special in a twin spa suite. If getting back to nature is your thing, the Rasul temple offers a warm mud therapy treatment in a steam room while you soak in the views of Brisbane’s skyline. Tel: +61 (7) 3835 3535.
